Internet Movie Database entry.

It was a made-for-tv movie version of the classic hypnotist story. (Or so I gather from the title) It was made in 1983 and starred Jodie Foster and Peter O'Toole.  I've had some difficulty finding a copy since it's been discontinued and is a rare film.

Have obtained a copy, finally!!

David's character, as mentioned above, is Norvid.  Norvid is one in a long line of male secrataries employed by a friend of Peter O'Toole's character.  Yes, ladies and gentlemen, our sweet darling bad-guy-playing David was a boytoy.  Delicious thought, no?  And he gets to sit next to Jodie Foster for the duration of the entire scene he's in!! I'm jealous.

Oh, somc clearification on the plot -- Peter O'Toole plays Anton someone, a Hungarian voice teacher who takes Jodie under his wing.  Before he was a teacher, he was a great singer, and his great work was Svengali.  A story about a hypnotist who hypnotizes a girl to make her a singer.  He does this because, in the words of Zoe Alexander (Jodie's character) "he wants to make it with her."
